Shanghai China Petroleum Instrument Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise that develops, manufactures, sells petroleum instruments, and provides oilfield technical services.

The company was founded in 2000, and was jointly invested and established by China National Petroleum Technology Service Corporation and Shanghai Petroleum Instrument Factory (formerly Shanghai No.4 Petroleum Machinery Factory). The predecessor of the company is the Logging Branch of Shanghai Petroleum Instrument Factory, which is the earliest logging instrument manufacturer in China. With a long industry experience, the company has accumulated a good market reputation. In 2006, the WELLSTAR series of logging instruments with fully independent intellectual property rights were launched and widely used in Daqing, Xinjiang, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Chad, Sudan, Niger, South Sudan, Kuwait, Indonesia, and other places, quickly gaining market praise. In 2008, after the company was restructured into a private enterprise, it successively launched the WELLSTEER series of MWD, and its product performance was verified and recognized in the exploration and development of shale gas in Sichuan.
